Namibia Trip Blackburn 2012

Just a quick check in at the hotel in Swakopmund on the skeleton coast. Having a brilliant time so far on this journey, and seeing some incredible things. I’ve uploaded a few photos I’ve taken so far (100% unedited, so you can see the raw beauty of the country) and a few more people will also be uploading theirs later on this evening I think.

Yellow Fever Vaccination

Upon further research into the South African customs laws it seems we won’t need our yellow fever jabs after all. So all those struggling to get them need not worry. You only need them if you are travelling into South Africa from a country endemic of Yellow Fever, of which Namibia is not. So we are good to go by the looks of it.

Also after playing about a bit and having some tests with the Zoom H4N I have a nice grasp on how it works and should be able to get some awesome audio. I think I’ve fallen in love with it because of how amazing the quality is! Thanks Katy!

For all those looking for SD cards for borrowing DSLR’s or audio equipment, or just for in general, these are probably your best bet value wise. Sandisk is the best brand for SD cards, and at £8 for 16gb class 10, and a 30mb/s transfer rate you can not go wrong at all. I have just ordered several of them myself:

I also checked up on what airlines we’re travelling with, it’s British Airways down to Heathrow then South African Airways to jo’berg and to Windhoek.

On South African Airlines we are allowed up to 30kg main luggage and an 8kg limit on hand luggage. Whether this limit is also carried through to the BA flight (since the luggage is generally transferred automatically for connecting flights) I’m unsure, we may have to inquire about that.

I’m curious particularly about the hand luggage limit since I want to take all expensive gear on the flight with me if possible, and I will be bringing quite a bit (dslr, laptop, camcorder etc.) If it’s not possible to do that, would someone be willing to share the load perhaps if they have any spare weight in hand luggage?

Yellow Fever Jab

I spoke to a nurse this morning to sort out what jabs I’ll need, and she was pretty adamant that I don’t need the yellow fever jab. I’ve booked it anyway, but has anyone else been told they won’t need it?

Meeting

I spoke to John earlier in the week and he wanted to organise another meeting for this week, on friday, since the one last week ended up not happening. When and where I am unsure of, I’d assume the same room as last time on the 3rd floor, but as for a time I’m unsure.

Bryan.

I am not recommending this site for purchases but it does have loads of good advice on what to take when travelling.
